Stripe Payment Links (Hong Kong) — share a pay link without a storefront

Create a Stripe-hosted Payment Link in the Dashboard, share the URL or QR, then go live after you finish account activation.

2026-10-16

Who it’s for / not for

ForNot for
People selling a fixed product, subscription, or donation via a shareable linkTeams that need custom checkout UX, complex catalogs, or certified tax/legal advice
Operators okay with Stripe-hosted page + limited brand customizationAnyone treating this page as payment/legal certification
People who want a shareable pay link before building a storefrontA custom storefront or enterprise checkout

Stack (spine only)

Secondary (not this draft): Invoicing for named customers, full Checkout Element builds.

  • Stripe Payment Links — no-code Stripe-hosted payment page
  • Stripe Dashboard — products, links, QR, buy button, payouts
  • Vercel site (later) — optional embed of buy button / CTA once the site exists
  • Resend newsletter (later) — share the link in issues after human approve

Bot vs human

Numbered steps

  1. Create a Stripe account. Enter email, full name, country, password → fill business profile → verify email (startup no-code guide). Human must verify: country selector shows Hong Kong and matches your legal entity.
  2. Stay in test / sandbox until activation. You can create Payment Links before full activation; live charges need the go-live path below. Bot drafts only — no live mode keys in repo.
  3. Create a product or choose “customers choose what to pay”. Dashboard → Payment Links → +New (create docs): fixed product / subscription — select or +Add a new product, then Create link. Tips / donations / pay-what-you-want — select Customers choose what to pay (optional suggested / min / max; default max noted in docs as 10,000.00 USD — human must verify current limit for HKD).
  4. Configure what buyers see. Dynamic payment methods (40+), preferred language from the browser (30+ languages), Adaptive Pricing for local currency presentment, limited UI customization. Enable/disable methods in Dashboard. Human must verify: which methods appear for a Hong Kong business selling in HKD vs USD.
  5. Share the link (share docs). Copy the URL; optional QR code (PNG); optional Buy button embed. Deactivate via overflow menu if needed (cannot delete; can deactivate / reactivate via API).
  6. Go live (human-only gate) (startup guide). Account settings → business type, tax details, verification, statement descriptor → bank details for payouts → two-step authentication → Agree and submit → sandbox → live. You submit this yourself. Turn on live charges when you are ready.
  7. After first payment. Track in Dashboard; optional webhooks for slow methods (docs note some methods take 2–14 days). Fulfill manually until you automate.

Failure modes / HK caveats

  • Account country / entity mismatch — wrong country at signup blocks HK payouts; fix early. Human must verify.
  • Fees change — HK Payment Links marketing page shows example pricing “Starts at 3.4% + HK$2.35” and Adaptive Pricing conversion fee “starting at 2%” (en-HK Payment Links, accessed 2026-10-16). Treat as a marketing snapshot, not a quote for your account. Human must verify live Pricing in Dashboard before publishing numbers on the site.
  • Payment method eligibility — Dynamic methods filter by business location, currency, and buyer; not every method works for every HK seller. Human must verify in Dashboard preview.
  • Pay-what-you-want limits — max amount defaults described in USD in create docs; HKD behaviour human must verify.
  • Deactivated link — QR still exists but buyers hit an expiration page.
  • No fake social proof — do not invent conversion rates or “everyone uses Stripe in HK” claims.
  • Not legal/tax advice — whether you must collect tax in HK is human must verify with your own advisor.

Newsletter CTA

When the link is ready, the newsletter playbook is the next checklist.

Human must verify

  1. Stripe account country = Hong Kong and entity docs match.
  2. Current card / wallet / local payment methods enabled for your account + currency.
  3. Exact fee schedule (the 3.4% + HK$2.35 / ~2% FX figures on marketing pages may change).
  4. Payout bank currency, timing, and any HK banking restrictions.
  5. Whether Adaptive Pricing / presentment currency fits your pricing policy.
  6. Tax / invoice requirements for your product before charging live.
  7. Pay-what-you-want max/min in your Dashboard currency.
  8. Share a live Payment Link when you are ready.

Doc gaps

stripe.com/hk is a marketing hub (not a Payment Links how-to). HK-specific KYC document list and exact method matrix were not fully enumerated on the pages fetched; rely on in-Dashboard activation + payment method settings. The global availability page confirms Stripe operates in supported countries including the HK locale path, but does not list Payment Links line-by-line for HK.
